Frequently Asked Questions about Alliance Academy
What students are zoned for Alliance Academy?
Alliance Academy for Innovation serves all of Forsyth County, GA. Any 8th-grade student who resides in Forsyth County and is enrolled in a Forsyth County middle school at the time of application may apply during the fall of their 8th-grade year to attend Alliance.
How are students chosen for admittance to Alliance?
Students are selected through a lottery process held each November. Any student who wishes to attend Alliance must apply using the Out of District Request form, which opens each October–November. Application windows vary each year and will be publicized on the Alliance Academy website and official social media channels.
Once an application is submitted, the student's academic, behavioral, and attendance records are reviewed. Any student in good academic standing who does not have excessive unexcused absences or major violations of the FCS Code of Conduct will be entered into the lottery. Please review the AAI Lottery Procedures for complete details.
How many students are accepted to Alliance?
We accept approximately 350 freshmen each year, depending on pathway availability.
What pathways are available at Alliance?
Please check the AAI website for current pathway options. Students may select up to two pathway options during the application process. Following the lottery, accepted students will be notified of the pathway they will begin in their freshman year. Most AAI students complete at least two pathways by beginning a second pathway during their sophomore year.
What if I don’t get accepted to Alliance in 9th grade? Can I reapply for 10th grade?
Students who are not selected in the November lottery are placed on a waiting list. If a spot opens in their desired pathway(s), we will contact the family and add the student to the acceptance list. We occasionally allow sophomores to transfer to Alliance in 10th grade if they remain on the waiting list from the previous year and are interested in an available pathway.
What if I don’t like my pathway and want to change it?
AAI students are expected to complete the pathway assigned to them in their freshman year. Each pathway consists of three courses, allowing most students to complete at least two pathways while enrolled at Alliance.
Does Alliance have clubs and organizations? What about sports and other extracurricular activities?
Yes. Students at AAI can join many clubs, honor societies, and active CTSO chapters (DECA, TSA, HOSA, SkillsUSA, FIRST Robotics, and FBLA). Check the AAI website for a current list of clubs.
Our students regularly compete, earn awards, and gain valuable leadership skills through these CTSOs and organizations. Students who wish to participate in GHSA sports may do so at their districted high school.
Can students take online courses during the summer and school year?
Alliance Academy for Innovation is committed to a collaborative learning environment centered on career pathways and cross-curricular connections, which is best accomplished through face-to-face instruction. Therefore, online course options during the school day at Alliance Academy are limited and require administrative approval. In accordance with GA Code § 20-2-319.1, students interested in pursuing online courses may do so by enrolling through their districted high school.
All Forsyth County students have the option to take ONE self-pay online course per semester and ONE online course during the summer. If a student completes a summer course and submits an official transcript with a passing grade, they will be placed in the next-level course. We strongly encourage students to engage in experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom during the summer (e.g., travel, employment, volunteering, internships, or camps).
Does Alliance offer AP courses and Dual Enrollment?
AAI offers 24 Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and many of our students participate in Dual Enrollment. Most of our elective courses directly align with our pathway offerings. Please consult the AAI website for the most up-to-date course list.
Can students do internships?
Yes. Juniors and seniors can apply for Work-Based Learning (WBL), earning academic credit through paid or unpaid internships.
What about taking Health and Personal Fitness before 9th grade? Is that recommended?
Rising 9th graders who take Health and Personal Fitness during the summer will be placed in a second pathway introductory course, subject to availability. However, we recommend that 9th graders take Health and Personal Fitness on campus during their freshman year, as it provides a valuable opportunity to meet fellow freshmen and build friendships.
How do students get to Alliance?
Transportation is provided via district buses. Students ride their neighborhood bus to their districted high school and then take a shuttle bus to Alliance. At the end of the school day, students are bused back to their districted high school and transported home.
Additionally, students may be dropped off at Alliance, and eligible student drivers may purchase a parking pass to park on campus.
My student attends private school or homeschool. Can they apply to Alliance?
Students must be fully enrolled in Forsyth County Schools (FCS) to submit an Out of District (OOD) request. From Monday, October 13th through Friday, November 14th, the registration office will process rising 9th-grade enrollments for the 2026–2027 school year for Forsyth County residents currently attending private school or homeschooling.
Parents who wish to enroll an incoming student for the 2026–2027 school year from a private school or homeschool must call the main registration line at (678) 947-0863 ext. 0 to schedule an appointment.
